The key to successful interviewing is a sound presentation. Applicants who do their own self-assessment know conclusions interviewers will likely make. You should plan to support reasons why you should be hired in order to be effective.

You should be able to answer the following question:

"Of the 50+ people we may interview for a given job, why should we hire you?"

You should know how to answer all questions to make sure you showcase your unique skills and abilities!.

Experience a Practice Interview. Practice with a peer or family member so you can answer questions confidently and appropriately.

Review Anticipated Questions. Know what you are looking for in a career move and know how to answer questions that are asked of your accounting skills and knowledge.

Psych Yourself Up. Before the interview, sit down by yourself for 1/2 hour in your room or wherever you can be alone. Go over your strengths and your accomplishments. Outline your strengths!

Get a Good Night's Sleep. Probably one of the most important preparations is to get a good night's sleep and try to relax before the interview. It is much like studying for an exam!

We look forward to talking with you during your interview, and we want you to be as comfortable and prepared as possible.

Here are some items that you should bring with you to the interview:

  • A current professional resume on clean paper and neatly organized
  • Samples of class work, articles written, etc.
  • References
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills
  • Appropriate attire
  • Arrive neatly groomed to look the part!
